Why do I need a DATA Cable for my mobile phone?

Data cables provide you with the ability to link your mobile phone to your PC and transfer pictures, wallpaper, ringtones. A Data cable will allow you to edit and configure all of your mobile phone Address book and organiser  details.

Mobile Phone Unlocking :

You can use a Data cable to unlock your mobile phone from its current network or reset the phone to factory settings*
*(This is subject to having the appropriate software installed on your PC and can usually be found on the internet)

Uploading Data using a Data Cable

A Data cable and software can be used to upload ringtones, pictures, wallpaper, and mobile phone books etc. You can also download DATA to your PC. Is your mobile phone full up with photos or ringtones? You can either delete them or download them to your PC for use at a later date
 
It is important that you purchase the correct cable for you phone and a cable that has the correct connection type for your PC

Data Cable Connectors

There are many different type of phone connection and will differ not only with manufacturers, but also the models that manufactures produce.

To enable your mobile phone to communicate with you computer, you will require software. The software is installed on your computer and will recognise that the Data Cable is attached to the mobile phone and the computer.  The software is either supplied with the mobile phone, supplied with the cable or will need to be purchased separately.

If you obtain the Data Cable and the software together as a package then this is usually referred to as a Data Suite.

Today there are a lot of source of free software on the internet, typically Mobile Phone manufactures websites.  Nokia offer software for all their current range of mobile phones.  Most of the new Nokia Mobile Phones are packaged with the Data Cable and software in the box.
